Volunteering

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Excelsior! Volunteers are an essential part of our school. They give time, treasure, and talent, and we appreciate all that they do!

Volunteers can have a very powerful impact on the students and schools. Evidence suggests that when adult volunteers are present, students see that adults take school and education seriously and respect learning. This promotes positive attitudes toward school.

Children whose parents are involved in their schools do better. Research has shown that children of a school volunteer make better grades and perform better on tests. They’re also better behaved, have better attendance, and are more likely to graduate and continue their education.

In School

We have opportunities for volunteering in school or at school events, serving as chaperons, room parents, tutors, guest readers, and helpers at recess or lunch.

To volunteer to work with children, you will need to submit an application, complete the Excelsior Confidentiality Agreement, and go through a background check. Follow the links below to get started!

If you would like to volunteer but have a financial hardship and cannot afford the cost of the background check, please contact Kim Carpenter.

Out of School

Parents who are unable to come to school during the day have asked us if there is a way they can help, too. We appreciate that desire! You can talk to your child’s teacher and see if there is anything you can do outside of school. We have had parents do things such as precutting construction paper shapes at home that the class would be using for an activity at school.

Parents can also volunteer for PTSO events after school and on the weekends, such as Spring Fling, Fall Festival, Movie Night, and culture events.

There are also Board committees on which parents can serve. You can apply to serve on a committee on the Board page under the About Us menu tab.

Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO)

Another great way to help the school is to join the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO). Please visit their page under the Get Involved tab.
