In First Grade Core Knowledge, there is a Domain on Different Lands, Similar Stories, which focuses on giving the students a sense that all around the world, people tell certain stories that, while they differ in details, have much in common. Such tales are Little Lon Po Po, a story from China, and Red Riding Hood; Issun Boshi, from Japan, Little Finger of the Watermelon Patch, from Vietnam, and Tom Thumb or Thumbelina; and variations of the Cinderella story from China, Vietnam, and Korea.
