Excelsior Classical Academy’s Drama department performed the spoof Save Hamlet! four times from November 22-24, Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 3pm & 7pm, and Sunday at 3pm. Save Hamlet was written by Mark Harvey Levine.
Those who have seen Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and most who haven’t, know that pretty much everyone dies by the end of the play. In Save Hamlet!, everyone, including Hamlet’s father and Ophelia, survives, thanks a group of characters who are women disguised as men. This crew diligently resists the seemingly inevitable tragedy, spying on everyone, replacing swords with pool noodles, and hiding behind arrases… a lot! There are famous lines from Shakespeare and many jokes in this delightful play.
